I went to my oil painting class last night and worked on my still life some more. It is coming along, I am still getting used to oils. It is different than acrylics, not only does it take longer to dry. I also mixes different. I had some trouble mixing a warm black, I ended up using Pthalo blue and Raw umber with some Burnt Ceina, As I said last post I am painting it in a warm mono tone and will glaze in color. Not sure ho long this will take, the class is only 8 weeks, will probably finish it at home. Any way here is where I am at right now. Started with the light areas and then to the dark, I I did not get tho the bricks in the wall last night and will darken the background some more.
I put oil to canvas last night in class. I decided to paint a still life to work on techniques and get the basics of light and shadows properly. So here is the under painting,, I am going to start glazing layers of color next week. I had fun doing this and think that I am really going to enjoy oil painting. I am starting to learn to sketch and draw. Ti am taking a drawing class at the tech school,"Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain". I am having a great time. Also taking a oil painting class will be adding from that class as it goes. The upside sketch was an exercise drawing upside down, to get out of the left side of the brain. The watercolors are some of my first attempts at urban sketching.
Sorry that I have been inactive for so long. I really haven't been inactive. I had back surgery and have been recovering. My photography is what suffered from this.I just can not stand for more than a few minutes, and walking really takes a toll at the end of the day. Any way I am back. I am now starting a new phase of my artistic expression. So now i am painting with acrylics. I have been doing this for a few months. Started out by going to some wine paint and canvas sessions with my wife Sharon, who is an exceptional artist. I really just went to humor her, This classes were fun but not something I was in too. I also was not very good....lol. We then went and did a galaxy painting and I just really got into it. any way enough back ground here are some of the paintings. So that is where I am at right now, more to come.
We went to the mountains last weekend and I did take a few photos. Yes, the leaves are changing, the air is crisper, and the smell of fried grease is in the air. Yep, it is time for the NC State Fair again. The midway, the rides and fo course the livestock shows. It all spells the end to summer and the beginnings of Fall. To me going to the fair is a great time to people watch, there is a wide variety of fair goers. From all walks of life, all parts of the state. Everyone loves the fair! For me, it's the livestock I look forward to the most, second only to the food. Awe the food, turkey legs, funnel cakes, roasted corn on the cob and all the new fried creations they come up with every year. Hey, it is only once a year, so why not enjoy it, worry about the weight, or blood pressure later. Besides, I am sure driving around town for a day raises my BP more than a turkey leg! We started off at the horse area where the light draft horses were being shown. They performed different classes that are everyday chores on the farm. A few are the single and double horse sled, used to haul firewood and other items out of the woods or around the farm. Another, the log skid where logs are pulled out of the woods. All of the events are through an obstacle course of cones simulating trees and things that must be negotiated daily. The last event was the Governor's Cup six horse team class. This was really a great event to watch, these horses are magnificent and the wrangling is just amazing. Unfortunately not many of my photos of the events came out, mostly my fault. Had focus issues and should have used a tripod. I will work on some of them for later. Here is on of the teams with starting the log skid course.
